Could this be worse for The friends fans?
Krispy Kreme turns 30u anniversary of the sitcom that gave actors like Jennifer Aniston and the late Matthew Perry their big breaks with a promotional line of donuts celebrating everything from Central Perk to framed eyes. But the company doesn’t sell them in the US
Instead, the new flavors are only available in the UK and Ireland. And that, as you can imagine, has pissed off the internet, which is hoping the chain will change its mind. The Friends Dozen also comes with a sticker sheet featuring iconic quotes from the show, including (yes) “pivot!”
The offer includes four types of donuts:
- “Friends,” a chocolate-glazed donut with an image of the iconic fountain from the show’s opening credits
- “Trifle,” a strawberry-and-cream-filled offering that nods to an episode about a failed dessert. (We’re assuming there’s no beef sautéed with peas and onions in the donut, and it doesn’t actually taste like feet.)
- “How are you;” he might use Joey’s line, but he mimics the frame on Monica’s door.
- “We were on a coffee break,” a coffee latte flavored donut with the “Central Perk” coffee logo.
The company is also offering fans the chance to win a trip to New York, where the show was based, as part of the promotion.
Krispy Kreme did not respond to a request for comment on why the donuts are not offered in the US
The treats will be available until July 21st. Hopefully shoppers have their own rent-controlled flat if they want to buy the donuts, though, as a Friends Dozen costs £25.95, just under $28 in US currency.
